Introduction

I have travelled all over the world over the years; America, North and South Asia and Europe, nowhere have I found anything comparable to the British Pub. It is an institution which is probably why the government wants to get rid of it.

Tax on beer, business rates, smoking ban, health and safety fascists you name them, they are all putting the boot into your pub. 30 are closing a week!

It is a national catastrophe as great as any supposed climate change or credit crunch. Perhaps the government want us to sit at home drinking tinned cheap beer from the supermarket watching carefully crafted banal TV programmes they decide are suitable for us. When the butcher, baker and candlestick maker all get together in the pub, who knows, we might decide to start a revolution!
