Police Constables, not political correctness.

UKIP's Godfrey Bloom throws his hat in the ring to become Humberside's first elected Police and Crime Commissioner

Godfrey in Chamber

Godfrey Bloom, sitting MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, will be taking on Labour's John Prescott in the battle for the post.

After announcing his intention to stand, Mr Bloom said, “It is my belief that the British police are still the best in the world but constant political interference has unfortunately diminished their status in the community.

"Their job has become dominated by paperwork and political correctness and not feeling the collars of Humberside's criminals.

"I have loads of friends in the more junior ranks who would like to get back to a bit of old style policing and be sure of public support for doing so.

"Sir Robert Peel, the founder of the modern police force once said, 'No minister ever stood, or could stand against public opinion.' The public is sick and tired of watching yobs and thugs walk away scot-free.

"I believe that no crime should go unpunished and I have a strict no-tolerance view of anti-social behaviour that makes the lives of law-abiding, decent citizens a misery.

"Speaking of thugs - I will be up against Lord Prescott in the election for the job. He has a habit of punching those who get in his way but my message to him is that I am up for the fight.

"Anyone who soldiered with me knows I back my team to the hilt. I want to give Humberside Police the support they deserve and the local community the police force they deserve. It  will be a big learning curve but I intend to start by listening."
