November 19, 2009 - EU FARCE

The appointments of the Belgian Prime Minister as president of the European Council and Baroness Catherine Ashton as foreign affairs supremo have been described as "a typical EU farce".

"An empty limousine drew up and out stepped President Van Rumpy Pumpy and foreign minister Baroness Nobody," said MEP Godfrey Bloom.

"And these farcical appointments were casually decided over a cosy dinner by EU leaders," said Mr Bloom, UKIP Euro MP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

November 19, 2009 - COW FARTS HOT AIR

Sir Paul McCartney’s campaign for meat-free Mondays has been come under fire.

The former Beatle is to take his controversial project to a European Parliament conference on the environment in Brussels in a fortnight. But Euro MP Godfrey Bloom has pooh poohed his involvement.

"Perhaps it is healthier for those in affluent societies to eat less meat but that should be their choice. Not just because a pop star has decided to get involved with climate change propaganda and thinks farting cows and pigs herald the end of Mankind.

"People giving up meat is not going to save the world, no matter what a  vegetarian zealot tells us.

"Interestingly global warming is now called climate change, because in fact it has not warmed in recent times. The climate is changing but that is a recognised cyclical event and a recent survey by a national newspaper showed that the majority of British people do not believe it has been caused by man.

"And the view of this majority, who recognize new age witchcraft and sneaky stealth taxes when they see them, are supported by 30,000 independent scientists,” said Mr Bloom, Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire MEP for the UK Independence Party.

November 12, 2009 - VISA ROW

The decision to remove visa requirements for people from the Western Balkans entering Britain has caused a storm of protest.

The measure was approved by the European Parliament in Brussels today and has been greeted by anger by the UK Independence Party, which voted against it.

"Bosnia has a large number of Al Qaeda fighters living there, many of whom took part in rapes and massacres during the Yugoslav civil war. This change in visa rules means that in the near future they will be able to freely stroll into this country," said Godfrey Bloom, MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

"And at the same time our kith and kin from the Commonwealth countries, such as Australia and Canada, are grilled when they arrive here. They get treated more like terrorists than real terrorists do.

"By making it easier for Bosnians to come into Britain, we are making it easier for the Al Qaeda fighters who have been living in Bosnia since the Yugoslav civil war to get agents into Britain and carry out another 7/7 style bombing," said Mr Bloom.

"This just further highlights how vital it is we leave the EU as soon as possible so that we can defend our borders properly. The British should have the final say on who comes into this country and not unelected bureaucrats hundreds of miles away," he added.

November 10, 2009 - BANK LOANS OUTRAGE

Outrage was voiced today by Euro MP Godfrey Bloom about plans for three UK-based banks to start offering new loans to onshore wind farms.

"This is an outrageous insult to the hard-pressed taxpayers who are shoring up the country's ailing banking industry.

"Small companies struggling to survive have their desperate requests for loans turned down and yet here is the government pushing for countless millions to be made available for wind farms.

"This is wrong on so many levels," said Mr Bloom, UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.

"The banks - which we have shored up - should be offering loans to real companies in the real world not ploughing cash into this modern-day witchcraft.

"There is no way that wind energy will ever enable Britain to reach the artificial renewable targets imposed by the EU," said Mr Bloom.

November 4, 2009 - MEP INTERVENES TO HELP POSTMASTER

Euro MP Godfrey Bloom has stepped into the breach to try to assist a Hull postmaster.

Sergi Singh, who is currently Asian Trader of the Year, has been running a thriving convenience store in Chamberlain Road for more than 20 years.

Two years ago he established a sub-post office within the premises when the nearby Stoneferry Road post office closed and the post office business Mr Singh has established is unique in East Yorkshire.

It stays open until his shop shuts at 9 pm and is open seven days a week which is a service the local community greatly appreciates.

But his plans to extend the business to meet the demands of customers - by offering a vehicle taxing service has reached a state of deadlock between the Post Office and the DVLA.

Mr Bloom, Hull’s MEP for the UK Independence Party, learnt of the problem and the petition customers have been signing in support of the proposal, and has visited Mr Singh along with the party's local parliamentary candidate, Mike Hookeham.

“I came across Mr Singh’s plight during my search for red tape which is strangling small businesses. I have encountered lots of red tape causing headaches for traders but this case involves it in spades,” said Mr Bloom.

“Here is an extremely hard working man who is not asking for handouts to help his business but just the opportunity to supply a service which the local community want. I am more than happy to try to help him and have written to the DVLA urging them to urgently re-consider the matter,” he added.

November 3, 2009  - BROKEN PROMISES

Euro MP Godfrey Bloom today slammed David Cameron for reneging on his referendum promise.

"David Cameron has failed to deliver his promise of a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, proving that he cannot be trusted.

“Now all can clearly see what the UK Independence Party has always known, that the three main parties are as bad as each other,” said Mr Bloom, UKIP’s MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. .

“First Labour failed to uphold its promise of a referendum. Then the Lib/Dems squirmed out of theirs, and now, bold as brass, the Tories,  having condemned everyone else, disgracefully perform this U-turn.

“They all made promises, and they all fail to uphold those promises. Cameron made a promise. He called it a 'cast iron guarantee' that the people of this country would be offered a say on their own future.

“Now he thinks that this would be too hard to do and frankly refusing to honour the commitment is outrageous,” said Mr Bloom.

“Local Conservatives need to ask themselves this simple question. Why are you supporting a party that you know will let you down when it is elected?"

"This issue is causing a major rift in the Conservative Party and we urge the Euro-sceptic members to follow their conscience and join UKIP.

“This is a momentous time in British history and the majority of people in this country are against being ruled by Brussels and losing our sovereignty.

“UKIP will never stop fighting for withdrawal from the EU and anyone who carers about our independence should join us,” said Mr Bloom.

"A number of Conservative councillors have already come across and joined our ranks and I believe many more will follow," he added.
