Prohibition Conference goes ahead despite covert attempts to prohibit

"Attempts by Big Pharma and taxpayer funded groups to block freedom of speech will not work", said Godfrey Bloom MEP today on the eve of the first World Conference on Prohibition. "The truth will out".

Mr Bloom the host of the Conference now renamed 'Thinking is forbidden', was speaking as scientists, economists and social commentators from around the world were converging on Brussels for the event.

"We have been concentrating on some of the bad science around the smoking ban on this occasion", he said, "but the plan is to highlight the use of such tactics against a host of lifestyle issues at future events".

The Conference had initially been planned to take place in the European Parliament, under the auspices of Mr Bloom and TICAP (The International Coalition Against Prohibition). But after a mass lobbying campaign by Smoke Free Europe and the European Public Health Alliance, two bodies largely funded by taxpayer handouts and big pharmaceutical firms (who wish to sell 'quit smoking' products) the Bureau of the Parliament in closed session decided to ban the Conference.

"That the subject was not on the agenda, not in the meeting notes and the decision was taken in camera speaks volumes", said Mr Bloom. "The fact that they didn't have the courtesy to inform me for well over a week, making it nigh on impossible to re-organise even more so".

These well funded people are frightened of free speech and differing points of view, they make false claims and allegations to bully and denigrate. They claim that having differing opinions aired, 'undermines the dignity of the Parliament'. Pull the other one. They are a bunch of control freaks whose only pleasure in life is to disrupt another's pleasure. Well I have got news for them. You cannot win when there are still people prepared to make a stand against you"

Notes

The Conference is now taking place at the Berlaymont Silken Hotel,
27th 28TH January. Details can be found here

Press Release: The new unemployment statistics across Europe will come as no surprise.  However there is significant danger in them for certain EU members states.

In Spain for example the figures are rising through 18%.  Competition for even the most menial jobs is fierce.  Greece and Italy are hurting although the social unrest in Greece is at the moment being hushed up.  Watch for the signs in Madrid and Rome.

Devaluation of the currency is not an option, the Eurozone nation states have lost control of their financial policy.  EMU stands for Even More Unemployment.  The end of the euro is nigh.

Press Release: Plans to regulate sea angling come under fire

New rules from Brussels are putting the economies of seaside towns in Yorkshire in danger.

Plans to make recreational anglers sign up to the same high tech surveillance used by commercial fishing vessels would devastate the activity enjoyed by 1.4 million Britons every year.

The move is opposed by UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom who today urged people to sign up to an online petition to urge the Fisheries Minister to protect Britain's interests when the plans are discussed in Brussels.

"Fish stocks are not suffering because of recreational anglers and quotas would be completely unenforceable" said Mr Bloom. Read More

MEP calls for Britain to join the euro

ONE of Scarborough's Euro MPs has called for Britain to scrap the pound and join the euro, ten years after the currency's launch.
However, his comments have been slammed by one of his Yorkshire colleagues in the European parliament.

Richard Corbett, deputy leader of the Labour group in Strasbourg and one of six MEPs for Yorkshire and the Humber, this week launched a pamphlet arguing that it is time to re-open the debate on Britain’s membership.

It argues that Britain’s long term economic future would be enhanced by joining the single currency.

Mr Corbett said: “The 10th anniversary of the euro is a perfect opportunity to take stock of its progress and to re-open the debate on whether Britain’s long-term economic future lies with euro membership. The evidence suggests that it does.

Press Release for EU response (for Gawain)

Estimating growth is always difficult short or long term, however the EU record is pretty dismal.  Even a broken clock is right twice a day.  So far, correct forecasts they have made are zero.  Or nil point as they would say of us at the song for Europe.  What is more worrying is their failure to understand basic economics.  As Winston Churchill aptly put it, a government trying to tax and spend its way out of trouble is like a man trying to lift himself up by the handle of a bucket in which he is standing.

A demonstration of commitment might be a serious effort to cut back the bloated public sector in Europe’s economies, rife with non-jobs, and set the people free with a low tax and low regulation environment.

To the Yorkshire Post

Dear Sir

If I may respond to Richard Corbett’s piece reopening the debate on British membership of the Euro I feel I need to remind everyone that we have already had a ‘dry run’.  It was the exchange rate mechanism, or ERM, remember that?  We tried to bind the pound to the deutschmark.  Bolting one economy’s currency to another simply makes no economic sense, it did not work for us anymore than it worked when Argentina did the same to the US dollar.  The riots in Athens at the moment are a direct result of this ill advised policy.  Expect the same soon in Rome and Madrid.

The Euro is already failing.

Why Windfarms Won't Work

The recent cold weather highlights the lunacy of Britain being dependent on renewable energy.

As temperatures drop to to minus degrees and people use more and more energy, windfarms across the country are keeping resolutely still.

UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire Godfrey Bloom said the recent weather "emphasises the lunacy of this government and the EU's renewable energy targets."

"At a time of maximum energy output the so-called future of our energy supply is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

"And with the recession biting as much as the freezing temperatures what people need is a cheap, reliable source of energy rather than fields of windmills which aren't consistent."

Notes to editors

The EU have set targets for renewable energy for the United Kingdom of 15% total energy consumption by 2020, up from 1.3% in 2005.

A short video by Mr Bloom highlights how ineffective wind farms are in biting temperatures such as the ones experienced over the new year:
