21.08.08 Halt to EU gravy train monthly trip to Strasbourg
The EU's gravy train will not be heading to Strasbourg this month.
Due to the unfortunate incident of the roof collapsing, MEPs and staff will miss out on the monthly trip to the Alsace capital and will stay in Brussels.
Secretary General Harald Romer has made it clear in an e-mail to staff that blame for the incident in the French parliament has not yet been apportioned.
UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom said that it didn't need the roof collapsing to work out that it's a complete waste of money traveling hundreds of miles to vote when the Brussels buildings already had the facilities.
"But I always thought the institutions would collapse in on themselves before the actual buildings" he said.
"And it's timely that it happened during the French presidency who have always vetoed the halt to the traveling circus."
21.08.08 What happened to 'British jobs for British workers?
The immigration figures published today show that the Prime Minister's pledge of 'British jobs for British workers' is an empty one.
They show net immigration up 198,000 from the previous year, whilst unemployment in Britain continues to rise.
UKIP MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber Godfrey Bloom said the country still needed proper border controls.
"People from Eastern Europe don't
have to register with the government when they enter the country for at least three months during which time they can disappear." he said.
"There is still an increase of at least 40,000 people in three months when unemployment is spiraling upwards belies the Prime Minister's promise of 'British jobs for British workers'."
Mr Bloom also criticised the Tories' policy of a cap on immigration:
"We cannot have a cap on immigration whilst we are members of the EU, it's as simple as that, because half a billion people have a right to come into this country to live and work."
18 August 2008 - Road pricing trial in Leeds met with outrage by Yorkshire MEP
News that Leeds will be used as a trial for 'spy-in-the-sky' road pricing was met with outrage by Yorkshire MEP Godfrey Bloom.
Mr Bloom said that the government should be looking at cutting costs for motorists not adding to their mounting bills.
"Drivers in Britain already pay some of the highest prices per mile in the world because of the sky-high duty on fuel.
"People in Leeds going about their business should not be spied on by some satellite like Galileo which is just a vanity project for the EU.
"It is one of the most expensive and unnecessary projects and a black hole for funding and the Government should not bail it out with British tax payers money."

13.08.08 Fertiliser ban "lunacy" says MEP
Proposals by the European Union will see 15 per cent of pesticides used by farmers in the UK banned.
A further 80 per cent could be wiped out if MEPs in Brussels vote for them to be struck off an approved list of agrochemicals.
UKIP MEP for Yorkshire Godfrey Bloom called the bans "lunacy."
"This is utter madness at a time when food prices are rocketing and people are struggling to meet their household bills each month.
"Inflation is over double the government's target and we need to be helping farmers increase production to ease the price rises.
"Yet the EU are doing everything they can to make hard working people suffer.
"I shall be voting against these proposals and I hope my fellow MEPs in Yorkshire will stand up for their constituents and do the same."
